West Lothian teen becomes Scotland's first Taekwondo world champion in 20 years

A fearless West Lothian teenager has fought his way to becoming Scotland's first world Taekwondo Champion in 20 years.

19 January

15 year old Ian Ford from Armadale took home the gold medal after competing in front of thousands of spectators at the International TaeKwon-Do Federation (ITF) tournament in Dublin.

Ian battled through 6 rounds of competition before defeating his Spanish opponent in the final.

Provost Tom Kerr invited Ian to West Lothian Civic Centre where he was presented a civic gift to mark his achievement.

Provost Kerr said: "This is an outstanding achievement in a very physically demanding sport. Ian's hard work, determination and talent have taken him to the pinnacle of Taekwondo as a sport so it only correct that his success should be recognized. The fact he is the first Scot to have become world champion in 20 years demonstrates how unique a triumph this is so well done to Ian and hopefully this isn't the last medal he brings back to West Lothian."
