Linda Baxter has been appointed as the new Head Teacher of Polkemmet Primary School in Whitburn.

26 January

She has been acting Head Teacher at the popular school since August 2017, and now takes on the key role on a permanent basis.

Ms Baxter has a wide range of teaching experience gained through work at various schools in West Lothian, including leadership roles as Principal Teacher at Bathgate West Nursery and Balbardie Primary School, Bathgate and Acting Head Teacher and Depute Head Teacher at Uphall Primary School.

She was recently awarded a Post Graduate Certificate in Educational Leadership qualification from Stirling University, as part of the Into Headship course accredited by the General Teaching Council for Scotland.

Polkemmet Head Teacher Linda Baxter said: "I feel very proud and privileged to be appointed as Head Teacher of Polkemmet Primary School and acknowledge the responsibility that comes with leading a school. I have a very committed staff team and wonderful children and this is a great place to start.

"Since commencing at Polkemmet Primary I have got to know the pupils, parents, staff and wider school community and appreciate their views and support. I will continue to listen to the views of the pupils and parents/carers as we move towards our goals that are part of our school improvement priorities.

"Close partnership working with the entire school community will help ensure children enjoy their time at Polkemmet Primary, make good progress and leave with the essential skills and attitudes to be successful in their secondary education and beyond."

Executive councillor for education David Dodds said: "Congratulations to Linda Baxter on her appointment as permanent Head Teacher for Polkemmet.

"We are confident that Linda has the skills and experience needed to make a success of her role, working with the community to help deliver improvements for pupils."
