Linlithgow community cleans up

West Lothian Council's Cleaner Communities team this week supported Transition Linlithgow and Linlithgow Burgh Beautiful, in a community cleanup in Linlithgow.

Saturday, 24th March saw 41 volunteers take part in a community litter pick which went from Linlithgow Academy to Kettilstoun, and from Linlithgow Ruby Club to Xcite Sports Centre collecting a total of 90 bags of waste, weighing in at nearly half a tonne.

Included in this impressive haul for recycling were 27 bags of glass bottles and jars and 28 bags of plastic bottles and cans all of which will be recycled. The remainder - 35 bags of general waste - will go to landfill. Additional items found during the pick included: three traffic cones, one metal display case, one sledge, one pair of sledge runners and a golf buggy battery.

Executive councillor for the environment Tom Conn said: "Thanks to the Council's Cleaner Communities team for supporting local organisations in Linlithgow to organise this clean up.

"We always encourage people to enjoy West Lothian's fantastic outdoor areas and we want to keep them safe and pleasant for everyone and part of this is ensuring that our outdoor spaces are waste free by making sure people put their rubbish into the bin."
