West Lothian Council has recently launched its annual Festive Fiver campaign.
The scheme aims to provide every adult who accesses a foodbank in West Lothian over the festive period with a goodie bag filled with toiletries.
Local foodbanks are currently looking for donations for both men and women including items such as; razors, shaving gel, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, hygiene products for women and shower gel.
All donations are gratefully appreciated and can be handed in at the following council buildings:
- Arrocher House, Livingston
- Bathgate Partnership Centre
- Blackburn Partnership Centre
- Fauldhouse Partnership Centre
- Strathbrock Partnership Centre, Broxburn
- Forestbank Community Centre, Ladywell, Livingston
- Livingston Station Community Centre, Deans, Livingston
- Whitburn Community Centre
The campaign, which is in its fourth year, seeks to raise awareness of poverty and encourage discussion about the important issues related to poverty in the local area.
Depute Council Leader Kirsteen Sullivan, who is also Chair of the West Lothian Community Planning Partnership, said: "This is a really positive local campaign that provides vulnerable people with some festive cheer in the lead up to Christmas. However it also provides an opportunity to give practical help and highlight the need for continued community support to tackle poverty.
"The council and our partners are committed to doing all we can to help those who are struggling. West Lothian Council continues to combat poverty in our local communities and last week pledged to deliver funding of £285,000 to provide financial and other support to help the most vulnerable households in the county, including £22,000 to maximise financial resources of households on low incomes through working with partners to help those facing food insecurity."
