West Lothian community bands together this festive period

Members of the West Lothian community have come together to help those in need.

10 December
Festive Fiver

Big Bird Nursery in Whitburn and staff from Marks and Spencer's, Livingston Designer Outlet store are among those who have made contributions to West Lothian Council's Festive Fiver scheme.

The council recently launched its annual Festive Fiver campaign with West Lothian Foodbank aims to provide every adult who accesses a foodbank in West Lothian over the festive period with a goodie bag filled with toiletries.

Staff members from Big Bird Nursery and Marks and Spencer's were all delighted to be donating.

Big Bird Nursery's owner Phyllis Anderson said: "The donations have been made by Big Bird Nursery staff and The Club out-of-school care staff. The staff have foregone our normal Secret Santa where staff exchange gifts to give to Festive Fiver."

Festive Five are currently looking for donations for both men and women including items such as razors, shaving gel, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, hygiene products for women and shower gel.

All donations are gratefully appreciated and can be handed in at the following council buildings: Arrochar House, Livingston; Bathgate Partnership Centre; Blackburn Partnership Centre; Fauldhouse Partnership Centre; Strathbrock Partnership Centre, Broxburn; Forestbank Community Centre, Ladywell, Livingston; Livingston Station Community Centre, Deans, Livingston and Whitburn Community Centre.

Depute council leader, Kirsteen Sullivan, who is also chair of the West Lothian Community Planning Partnership, said: "The Festive Fiver campaign has already shown the great generosity of the West Lothian people. Thanks to the donations from individuals and groups such as the staff from Big Birds Nursery and Marks and Spencer's, the campaign will be able to begin to help those most in need this Christmas.

"If anyone has any items they wish to donate please take them along to one of the designated council buildings or if you would like to find out more about the work behind the scheme please get in touch with the Advice Shop."
