Joining from North Lanarkshire Council, Mrs Gardner has over 20 years of education experience from class teacher right up to acting head teacher in various schools across authority.

She plans to use her skills and experience to "bring out the very best" in pupils at the busy school, which provides denominational education for Armadale.

St Anthony's Headteacher Johanne Gardner said: "It is an honour to be appointed as Headteacher and an exciting time to be joining West Lothian Council.

"I am very much looking forward to taking St Anthony's Primary & Nursery forward and getting to know the pupils, parish and wider school community.

"My vision is to create a stimulating, nurturing and creative environment within our school community to bring out the very best in our pupils, and showcase their successes, which we will celebrate together."

Johanne graduated from St Andrew's College in 1999 with a B. Ed. Honours degree in Education, and has continued her learning by undertaking post graduate qualifications in support for learning and leadership and management to develop her skills.

Executive councillor for education David Dodds said: "On behalf of the council, I would like to welcome Mrs Gardner to St. Anthony's Primary and Nursery and to West Lothian Council.

"We are confident that Johanne has the skills and experience to continue to improve the school for the benefit of all the pupils."
