Jo, who has been Head of Social Policy on an interim basis since September 2018, has responsibility for all council social work services within West Lothian's Health and Social Care Partnership; the position also includes the role of Chief Social Work Officer.
Before coming to work in West Lothian in 1987 Jo worked in residential childcare in Aberdeen and statutory children's services in Dundee. Jo studied at Robert Gordon's University, Aberdeen before embarking on her career in social work.

For the past 7 months Jo has been responsible for the management of all social policy services which include Adults and Older people, Children & Families, Criminal and Youth Justice.
Jo commented: "I'm delighted to have been appointed as Head of Social Policy for West Lothian Council. I have worked in West Lothian for 32 years and know our services very well. I look forward to working in partnership with colleagues in council and health to ensure the delivery of high quality social work and social care services for the community of West Lothian."
The council's Chief Executive Graham Hope added: "Jo has outstanding knowledge of social care and health, and her leadership will be a real asset to West Lothian Council. There are few roles within any local authority as influential as the Head of Social Policy given the care services that are in place to serve some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
"I have worked with Jo for a number of years and I would like to congratulate her on her appointment."
