Work is ongoing to restore the McLagan Fountain in Bathgate's Steelyard, which has stood in the town since 1878.

The project to blast clean, repair then repaint the fountain is expected to be completed by the end of January, with a scaffold system currently around the fountain to allow the work to be safely completed.

The McLagan Fountain was gifted to Bathgate residents by Peter McLagan MP and his wife Elizabeth, to provide easy access to clean drinking water for the town.

Mr McLagan was Scotland's first Black MP and represented the Linlithgowshire constituency from 1865 to 1893.

The project is being funded by Bathgate Town Centre Improvement Fund, as part of the council's Capital Investment programme.
