11 March
Commonwealth Day 2024

Commonwealth Day is an annual celebration observed by people all over the Commonwealth in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean and Americas, the Pacific and Europe.

The theme for Commonwealth Day 2024 is 'One Resilient Common Future: Transforming our Common Wealth'.

The theme highlights how the 56-member countries must harness their strengths and collectively work together to foster a connected and digital Commonwealth.

Taking place this year on Monday 11 March, the event at the civic centre was led by Provost Cathy Muldoon with Cadet Sgt Howard having the honour of raising the commonwealth flag. The event included a musical performance from Howden St Andrews Primary School Choir.

Provost Cathy Muldoon said: "I'd like to thank everyone who took part in this event to mark Commonwealth Day 2024. Commonwealth Day brings with it an annual reminder of the rich and diverse cultures across the Commonwealth nations. It is important that we continue to work together and learn from each other and look towards a resilient common future where no one is left behind."
