Education Executive is being asked to back plans to start the consultation process over potential catchment boundaries, to fit better with local community ties, community council and natural geographic boundaries.

There will be no impact to pupils currently in attendance at West Lothian schools as a result of proposed changes to school catchment areas.

The main change for primary catchments would see the whole Pumpherston area of around 800 homes changed from St Paul's PS in East Calder to St. Nicholas PS in Broxburn to align with the Pumpherston and Uphall Station Community Council areas.

This will make best use of the greater capacity at St Nicholas' Primary, which was extended in 2016 to accommodate up to 462 pupils.

There are also a number of smaller boundary changes affecting the catchments for primaries including Holy Family in Winchburgh, St Joseph's in Linlithgow, Howden St Andrew's and St John Ogilvie in Livingston, St Columba's PS and St Mary's in Bathgate and Our Lady of Lourdes in Blackburn.

This mainly impacts on a number of areas with no, or a small number of residential houses, including: Letham Holdings; Houston Industrial Estate (North); East of Kipps Farm; South of Tartraven; Linen Faulds; Old Bathgate Road; Woods north of M8; Wester Dechmont; Deans Industrial Estate / Starlaw; and Starlaw South.

For secondaries, the Pumpherston area catchment would be changed from St Margaret's Academy in Livingston to Sinclair Academy in Winchburgh to remain consistent with the proposed primary catchment changes.

There are also a number of smaller boundary changes in line with the primary consultation to ensure that the primary and secondary catchments are consistent.

All pupils will continue to attend their existing schools for the remainder of their education if that is their wish. Younger siblings of pupils currently attending schools would also be allowed to attend the same school.
