murieston road crossing

The location for the new crossing - situated on Murieston West Road, adjacent to Bright Horizons Nursery - was identified by members of the local community who were keen to improve road safety and accessibility to local services such as the nursery, local shops, the medical centre and train station.

Local school children from nearby Williamston Primary School were also very keen to see a crossing put in place, with the busy road being crossed by many families during their daily commute to and from school. The project was undertaken by West Lothian Council and funded by Transport Scotland through the Cycling Walking Safer Routes (CWSR) programme for West Lothian, with approximately £1.2million allocated across similar road improvement projects across the area this year (2023/24).

With the crossing now in operation, Leader of West Lothian Council, Lawrence Fitzpatrick joined West Lothian Council staff to visit the location and hear first hand from Williamston Primary pupils how the crossing was making a difference to their daily journey.

The pupils were very happy to see the new crossing in place with one of them delivering a speech to the, detailing how much she felt a signalised crossing was needed for her and her classmates.
