The council's Education Policy Development and Scrutiny Panel on 3 February will have the chance to have their say on potential updates to early learning and childcare (ELC) in West Lothian.
They include plans to change the date at which some three-year olds start ELC.
Currently, West Lothian is one of a small minority of councils which allows children to attend nursery as soon as they turn three if their birthdays fall between August and December.
The new proposals would see all children start ELC on the first day of the new term after they turn three, with intakes each year in January, April and August. This meets statutory requirements, and would bring West Lothian into line with the majority of Scottish councils.
Any change would not start until August 2026 so current 2 eligible 2 year olds would not be affected. The paper sets out that any eligible 2 year old placement would be continuous until the child starts primary school.
The council also offers parents/carers the chance to buy extra hours at some ELCs. The panel will also give their views of the proposal to increase the charges for financial year 2025/26.
If approved, this would see the rate for a half day of ELC care increasing from £34 to £36 and a full day increase from £60 to £63.
