The New Howden Bridge carries Howden South Road over the River Almond in the centre of Livingston.

 

From Monday 21 April until Thursday 1 May, the footpath next to the southbound lane will be closed to pedestrians. Please note the road will remain open to traffic at all times.

 

Both the north and south riverside footpaths directly under the bridge will also be closed while the inspection is carried out.

Pedestrians should be aware that the following diversions will be in place:

 

  • Diversion Route for Footpath closure next to southbound lane: Pedestrians diverted to north footpath, then to cross at Almond Link Road at pedestrian crossing, travel west on the footpath from 112 to 15 Manitoba Ave, then follow the footpath through the underpass at Howden South Road and pass over Civic Centre Footbridge. Then continue west on footpath on Howden South Road and cross to east pedestrian crossing. Head eastwards on Howden South Road to south side,  follow the footpath to Burnvale, continue on southside of footbridge and vice versa.
  • Diversion route for North river side footpath closure: Pedestrians will be diverted to the north side footpath, cross on Almond Link Road at pedestrian crossing, travel west on the footpath from 112 to 15 Manitoba Ave, follow the footpath and through underpass at Howden South Road and vice versa.
  • Diversion Route for South River side closure:Pedestrians diverted to Civic Centre Footbridge over River Almond, continue west on the footpath on Howden South Road and cross to east pedestrian crossing head eastwards on Howden South Road to west side, footpath to Burnvale, continue on southside of footbridge and vice versa.
