River Kids, a leading children's charity dedicated to supporting young people experiencing poverty, is proud to announce funding support of £40,000 to schools across West Lothian. This initiative will enable 20 local schools to provide enriching experiences, resources and well-being projects designed to improve the lives of children who need it most.

The funding will help ensure that children from all backgrounds have access to experiences, extracurricular activities, and other life-enhancing opportunities regardless of their socioeconomic status. By reducing financial barriers, River Kids is reinforcing its long-standing commitment to empowering young people and giving them the best possible start in life.

The initiative builds on River Kids' track record of supporting children and families across West Lothian. A core part of River Kids mission is to provide essential clothing, furniture and access to life-enhancing experiences. With this latest funding, the aim is to broaden opportunities for all children, ensuring they can participate fully and improve their personal development.

Jan Ward, Chairman of River Kids, emphasised the long-term vision of the initiative:

"As chairman of River Kids, I am immensely proud of this initiative and the positive change it will bring to children whose families face financial hardship. Education and life experiences should not be determined by economic circumstances. This fund will allow schools to create opportunities for all children, helping them to build confidence, develop new skills, and create lasting memories.

"I encourage local businesses, community members, and supporters to join us in expanding this initiative, so we can continue making a difference in the lives of young people across West Lothian."

Bridgend Primary School is one of the schools to benefit. Executive councillor for Education, Andrew McGuire visited the school where he met with River kids Charity Manager, Stephen Newman; Head Teacher, Ian Harvey and Acting Depute Head Teacher, Stephanie Stutt to learn about impact of the initiative.

Cllr McGuire said:"This is a fantastic initiative and we are extremely grateful to River Kids for this endeavour. The support will help provide families with the best possible start in life - something we are all striving to achieve."
