MTSC is the result of four years of hard work by a small group of dedicated community volunteers to deliver facilities for healthy activities for all ages and backgrounds and provides opportunities for a range of sports such as tennis, basketball, netball, pickleball and football using their floodlit pitches.
Members of the not-for-profit MTSC raised the £350,000 required to deliver the project though a crowdfunder campaign and local donations, as well as £160,000 from West Lothian Council through Place Based Investment programme, as well as support from sportscotland, West Lothian Development Trust and the Benzies Foundation.
A special event was held to mark the opening by West Lothian's Lord Lieutenant Moira Niven, along with the local community and invited guests.
MTSC chair Andy Bull said: "Our goal has been to encourage and enable healthy activities for all ages and backgrounds by delivering this fantastic new facility in Murieston.
"Huge thanks go to sportscotland, West Lothian Council, West Lothian Development Trust and the Benzies Foundation for backing our vision and delivering the bulk of our funding needs.
"And special thanks go to everyone in the community who has helped support this project, which now forms an integral part of the new Livingston South Community Sport and Wellbeing Hub hosted by our generous friends at Livingston Cricket Club.
"This is very much a community facility, with local people donating to see it delivered and local companies a key part of the construction and delivery process. We have over 85 members signed up already, and we hope to continue to grow and establish ourselves as key part of the community."
Leader of West Lothian Council Lawrence Fitzpatrick added: "I was delighted to be asked to speak at the official opening of Murieston Tennis and Sports Club.
"It is remarkable what the hard-working volunteers have achieved in delivering such a superb facility for the Livingston South, and wider West Lothian, community.
"I would encourage local residents to come along and see what the new facilities have to offer, with plenty of opportunities for healthy and fun activities."
Tennis coaching classes are already underway for adults and kids, and MTSC are working with West Lothian Council's Active Schools and local scouts and sports clubs to boost participation. Club social tennis nights (Thursday) and Pickleball sessions (Friday) are already proving popular and local netball club West Lothian Netters have started using the MUGA for games and training sessions.
Summer Camps are also planned for the school holidays, with subsidised places available.
