A unique project to celebrate the heritage of Armadale is Back in Black after receiving a funding boost from The National Lottery Heritage Fund lottery - which will also help to deliver a concert in tribute to rock legends ACDC.

West Lothian Council has been working alongside the Armadale Community Centre Management Committee on a project to celebrate local heritage, which includes celebrating the 50th anniversary since rock legends ACDC played a concert at the community centre, back in May 1976.

The joint project has recently been awarded nearly £36,000 from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. West Lothian Council and Armadale Community Centre Management Committee are also investing funding.

Overall, the project will deliver:

  • a wider project to celebrate local heritage
  • the committee will hold a tribute concert celebrating the 50th anniversary of AC/DCs concert on the 2 May (AC/DC played at Armadale in May 1976) at Armadale Community Centre.
  • the council will provide a series of activities around this event including artistic workshops
  • the management committee have purchased a guitar of the model played by one of the AC/DC members and this will go on display in the centre's museum.
  • a series of workshops with local groups that will enable people to identify themes and historic events and to co-produce new content for the community museum
  • deliver a learning programme at primary schools and Armadale Academy that will teach children and young people about museums, the role of the curator and local heritage, and facilitate the production of a series of podcasts featuring local people by the students
  • purchase new display cases and a digital kiosk to upgrade the community museum space and to better display newly invigorated collections
  • recruit a group of new volunteers and provide training in in research, oral history collection and digital skills

The concert will be on Saturday 2 May.

Tickets will cost 50p - the exact same price as the 1976 concert (All proceeds from the concert will be used to support project delivery costs).

Tickets will be sold at the door on a first come first served basis - cash only
