The inspection team spent time in the school in March this year and during their visit, they talked to parents/carers and children, and worked closely with the headteacher and staff.
His Majesties Inspectors of Education published the findings from their inspection on Tuesday 12 May with inspectors marking the school as 'Good' across all quality indicators; Leadership of change; Learning, teaching and assessment; Ensuring wellbeing, equality and inclusion and, Raising attainment and achievement.
The inspection team found the following strengths in the school's work.
• Children who are welcoming and polite. They articulate well and display effectively the values of their school in their everyday interactions with each other and adults.
• Children's leadership of change and improvement. Ably led by the headteacher, children have meaningful leadership opportunities that influence the life and work of the school. Children are proud of the difference they make through decision making groups.
• Highly effective approaches to play-based learning for younger children. Children benefit from rich and engaging learning environments and experiences which support them to be creative and independent as they learn.
• Staff approaches to the development of children's skills for learning, life and work. Staff support children well to develop skills through motivating and relevant real-life contexts.
Areas for improvement were identified and discussed with the headteacher and representatives from West Lothian Council with inspectors concluding they are confident that the school has the capacity to continue to improve.
Parkhead Primary School Headteacher, Lousie Delargy said: "Many thanks to my wonderful staff team at Parkhead Primary School. We are very pleased with the outcome of this inspection and hope the inspection team enjoyed their time in our fantastic school community.
Our staff team, in collaboration with our parents and our wider partners, has helped ensure that the inspectors were able to see what Parkhead has to offer our learners. However, the real stars of the show are our brilliant pupils, who confidently shared their views on the strengths of our school with the inspectors, as well as what it means to be a Parkhead learner.
We will take the feedback from this inspection and ensure that we use it to deliver even more for our pupils, helping them receive the best possible educational experience.
