Seven S2 pupils from Inveralmond Community High School were delighted to recently attend the Institute of Physics: Girls into Physics and Engineering event held at the University of Edinburgh's Nucleus Building.
The girls had an amazing experience at the University, experiencing an adult learning environment and engaging with real-life application of their learning. They were challenged by various groups to engage with Physics and Engineering tasks and use their critical thinking skills. Some highlights included a bridge building competition led by representatives from the Army, and a competition to create a gearing mechanism out of Lego for use in a wind turbine which was led by representatives from the University of Strathclyde.
Part of the school vision at Inveralmond is to support young people to connect to the world around them. This experience was a fantastic opportunity for students to engage with Higher Education and put their learning into practice.
Inveralmond Community High School Headteacher Hamish Shankland said: "I am incredibly proud of our young people and their achievements. This was an amazing opportunity and they grasped it with enthusiasm. They are an asset to themselves, and the school."
